Mice Braces
ONLY for human Orthodontic Teeth Movement

Experiments on animals are important to explain/clarify the biological-cellular mechanisms in human orthodontics. On mice was investigated the movement of the first upper molars through the use of elastic bands or NiTi coil springs. The braces were applied for 3, 7 or 12 days. Beside other factors, appliance survival rate, teeth movement and periodontal bone loss was assessed. 7 days after the elastic bands were applied, 87% remained in the required place, however after 12 days only 27% remained there. The NiTi coil springs’ survival rate was 100% (though 8.9% of the animals did not survive). Both methods resulted in great teeth movement, which was most visible after 12 days (NiTi spring) and 7 days (elastic band). Periodontal bone loss was not induced by either of the two procedures. The choice became NiTi coil spring, because it was more reliable after 7 days. (Kirschneck)
